The institute has a local network. There are three ways to access the local network.
Note: This option is available in all GIM offices as well as the lab.
Before you can connect using an ethernet cable, you have to send the MAC-address of your network card to the responsible IT person. Your MAC-address has to be added to the white list of the GIM network.
Afterwards, simply use an ethernet cable to connect to one of the ethernet ports in your office (all ports with the letter "D" at the end should work, for example, DV-R504-01-D for port 1 in room 504). Ports with a "C" at the end are usually reserved for phones.
Note: This option is available in all spaces of RWTH where the RWTH-institutes Wifi is available.
Before you can connect to the RWTH-institutes Wifi, you have to get the permission to do so. RWTH-institutes uses a whitelist, too, so only known people can connect to the RWTH-institutes Wifi. Please contact the responsible IT person and request the permission by sending them your TIM-ID (note, that the same whitelist applies to GIM-VPN).
You can connect to RWTH-institutes the same way as you connect to eduroam. Just select the RWTH-institutes Wifi instead of eduroam and enter you credentials. More iformation is available at the IT Center Help.
Note: This option is available worldwide as long as you have a stable internet connection.
If you don't know how to connect to the "normal" RWTH-VPN, please follow the instructions on https://help.itc.rwth-aachen.de/service/vbf6fx0gom76/.
Before you can connect to the GIM-VPN, you have to get the permission to do so. GIM-VPN uses a whitelist, too, so only known people can connect to the GIM-VPN. Please contact the responsible IT person and request the permission by sending them your TIM-ID (note, that the same whitelist applies to RWTH-institutes).
To connect to the GIM-VPN, you have to change the domain to vpn.gim.rwth-aachen.de, use your passwort, that you already use for the RWTH-VPN (vpn.rwth-aachen.de) and the normal second factor.
