The GIM is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, or unwelcome sexual attention.
Members asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. We expect members to follow these guidelines at any GIM-related event and treat each other professionally with respect to their work, with constructive criticism and without dismissive behavior (e.g., eye rolling).
This Code of Conduct was adapted from confcodeofconduct.com, licensed CC-BY.
Every GIM member is expected to:
- Be proactive in communicating your needs (guidance, equipment, personal time, career plans, change of project/mentorship, etc) and research updates.
- Be present and working regularly according to your contract. Please let Florian know if you are busy with other commitments (personal or academic) and won’t be working on your project for a time.
- Keep on top of your own deadlines (assignments, reports, conferences, etc). Remember to give others at least 1 week (but preferably more) to give feedback on any piece of work (e.g., conference abstracts).
- Be a "good university citizen" including:
- regular participation in seminars, meetings, and other academic activities
- collaboration with individuals from other groups, both internally at RWTH and externally
- Care for the physical environment of the GIM (e.g., clean kitchen, instruments, offices, etc.).
Every GIM member is not expected to:
- Sacrifice personal or leisure time in service of projects. Do not forget to take regular breaks and vacations.
- Work long hours or nights without interruption. This can lead to burnout, exhaustion, and overall impedes the type of healthy work atmosphere GIM is trying to develop.
- Respond outside of normal working hours or during vacation. You may get mails in the evening (e.g., when Florian's kids are sleeping) or on weekends, but an immediate response is not expected.
